Tube-wave Effects in Cross-Well Seismic Data at Stratton Field

چکیده
The analysis of crosswell seismic data for a gas reservoir in Texas revealed two newly detected seismic wave effects, recorded 2000 feet above the reservoir. The first is that the dominant late phases on the records are the tube waves generated in the source well and later converted into laterally propagating waves through the reservoir in gas/water saturated layers, which convert back to tubewaves in the receiver well. The tube-wave train showed good correlation with multilayered reservoir zone structure, suggesting that the recorded wave field has strong dependence on the reservoir parameters. The second effect is that the recorded field is composed of multiple lowvelocity tube-waves. The modeling results suggest that imperfect cementation is the likely cause of this phenomenon.

Extraction of Reflections from Tube Waves
Meng (1997) used the McConnell crosswell data to show that transmitted arrival traveltimes can be extracted from common receiver gathers (CRG) where the effective source is a tube wave generator. In this report I use the McElroy crosswell data to show that reflection events can be extracted from CRG’s where the effective source is a tube wave generator. This result opens the possibility that mo...
متن کاملReport 9 Crosswell Imaging with Surface Sources and Tube Waves
Conventional crosswell surveys are expensive because a source must be placed downhole, which means that the hole must be prepped and placed off-line for a number of days. We suggest an interesting but unproven alternative: place a source on the surface, drop a simple obstruction-like device downhole that scatters tube wave arrivals from the surface source, and use the scattered tube waves energ...
متن کاملShort Note An Improved Method to Extract Very-Broadband Empirical Green’s Functions from Ambient Seismic Noise
The extraction of Green’s functions by cross correlation of continuous seismic records at station pairs is best achieved in a diffuse wave field, where energies radiated by random sources have equal power. To partially satisfy the diffuse wave-field condition, original seismic records must be normalized as they are highly nonstationary and may have amplitude variations of orders of magnitude wi...

Shear and Compressional Wave Velocities along with other Petrophysical Logs, are considered as upmost important data for Hydrocarbon reservoirs characterization. Shear Wave Velocity (Vs) in Well Logging is commonly measured by some sort of Dipole Logging Tools, which are able to acquire Shear Waves as well as Compressional Waves such as Sonic Scanner, DSI (Dipole Shear Sonic imager) by Schlumbe...
متن کاملDetection and Characterization of Fractures from Generation of Tube Waves
Field testing has been conducted to evaluate a model which predicts the permeability and orientation of a permeable zone, in a deep water weil in crystalline rock. Tube waves are generated by seismic P-waves incident on a fracture intersecting the borehole, a process observed in vertical seismic profiling (VSP). The behavior is explained by fluid exchange between the fracture and borehole, and ...
